Give It A Rest

Comments Off on Give It A Rest

I’m just back from four days in beautiful Lake Louise .

Four days of eating, resting, walking, eating — and, did I say resting?

I knew before I left that I was tired. But, I didn’t realize how tired I was until I slowed down.

How often has that happened to you?

Worse yet, how often have you slowed down, gone on vacation, only to get sick. It’s happened far too often for me — twice in the last 3 years!

Why is that?

Well, what seems to be true for me is that — even why I try to not push it, I do.

It seems to be my nature: Type A, Driver (Social Styles Inventory), Conductor (DiSC), high acheivement orientation. Whatever. I need to get thing done.

And, that can be a good thing.

But, the  downside is over-DO-ing.

So, I’m working on ways to DO more AND REST MORE!

I’ll keep you posted.

Do It First

Comments Off on Do It First

John Sarno says , pain is created by the subconcious to distract us from emotions that need/want to be released. If that’s the case how do we deal with pain that has that orgin?

Why care? Why not just ‘put up with it’? Or, "tough it out’?

You can.

You can keep going in spite of the pain, as I have done many, many, many, times in my life.

But, at what costs?

For one, pain is bloody distracting. For another, pain sucks energy.

The result: when you tough it out and try to create, your product will inevitably be less creative.

So, get smart. Find ways to reduce or eliminate ‘psychogenic’ pain.

Here’s one such technique.

If you have a burning desire to create. For example, you are writer working on your first novel. Or, a dancer, yearning to be a prima ballerina.

Do this.

DO YOUR WORK!

Noted creativity guru, Julia Cameron, calls it "doing your Morning Pages".

Morning Pages are done FIRST THING, before everything and anything else.

Why? Cause shit gets in that way!!!

So, if you want to write a novel blood well WRITE — first thing you get up — whether that’s 4 a.m. or 10 a.m.

If you are sculptor, get up, grab the tools, and SCULPT.

The secret to diminishing pain is to DO YOUR WORK!  FIRST!!!
